Meet Alterra’s new Barista Trainer, Colin Whitcomb!
We have had a change in staff in our barista training department and would like to welcome Colin Whitcomb as the latest member of our team. We would also like say goodbye and good luck to our long-time barista trainer and friend, Justin Tiesl, as he heads out west to bring his amazing artistic talent and passion for coffee to San Francisco.
Colin Whitcomb
Colin has called Alterra at the Lake home since the summer of 2006 and was one of the first baristas certified under the new training program. A Mequon native, Colin worked in coffee prior to joining the ACR family, but believes no job can really compare to the Alterra experience. The wild pace of working in the city’s busiest café has shown him that quality never has to suffer, even when facing an order line that can reach up to 25 drinks. “You have to stay in the moment at all times. It’s a great opportunity actually - we get that many more opportunities to hone our skills.” Outside of the café, Colin’s barista experiences include competing at the 2007 Millrock Latte Art Competition in Atlanta and the 2008 Great Lakes Regional Barista Competition in Milwaukee.
