Alterra is honored to once again host this annual competition of the best and brightest baristas of the 5-state area!

This year the event takes place over 3 days at Milwaukee’s Discovery World Museum. Come on out to see the Great Lakes area’s (Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio) finest baristas vie for a chance to compete at the U.S. Barista Championship in Anaheim, CA this April.

What exactly does a barista competition entail?

Fifteen minutes, four cappuccinos, four shots of espresso, and four signature drinks prepared in front of a panel of judges. A strong focus is placed on presentation, cleanliness, professionalism, and of course, the quality of the drinks prepared. Saturday March 13th - Competition from 11am - 5pm
Saturday March 13th - GLRBC Party @ Sabor 6pm
Sunday March 14th - Finals from 10:30am - 1pm
Sunday March 14th - Award Ceremony from 1:30pm - 2pm

imageWe encourage every coffee enthusiast to come out and experience the fascinating world of barista competitions! Spectators at the event are welcome to step up to the “4th machine,” where fans can sample the coffees, espressos, and signature beverages being prepared by competitors. Come cheer on your favorite Alterra baristas, including the 2009 GLRBC Champ Scott Lucey as well as Colin Whitcomb, Nathan Hoida and Cody Kinart.

Alterra To Host 2010 Great Lakes Barista Competition This March!

image(For complete information on the 2010 Great Lakes Regional Barista Competition please click here.) Just a heads-up that Alterra will be hosting the 2010 Great Lakes Regional Barista Competition set to take place this March 12th - 14th at Milwaukee’s Discovery World Museum!

Alterra is honored to once again bring the annual competition of the best and brightest baristas of the 5-state area back to Milwaukee. Winners of the competition go on to compete at the U.S. Barista Championship held at the Specialty Coffee Association of America Exposition in Anaheim this April 2010. (By the way, Alterra will be an exhibitor/lecturer at the national event - come visit!)

Alterra Supports UWM Cycling Club’s “Freezing For A Cure” To Benefit MS Society at Bayshore

The Cycling Club at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is Freezing for a Cause to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society this Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the Bayshore Town Center and Alterra is proud to help support their efforts.  Twenty-five of the cycling club’s teammates will be riding stationary training devices in the snow in front of the Bayshore café from 11:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Their mission is to spread awareness of the need to stop Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in its tracks and generate over $1000, of which 100% of the proceeds going directly to the society for research and program services.

imageMultiple sclerosis stops people from moving.  The National Multiple Sclerosis Society exists to make sure it doesn’t.  Through ground-breaking research initiatives, programs designed to address the challenges of living with MS, and advocating for improved public policy, the Society is dedicated to a world free of MS. Alterra Supports Our Milwaukee For Haiti Fundraiser

imageAlterra Coffee, through it’s involvement with the Our Milwaukee local business alliance, is proud to support Our Milwaukee for Haiti - a fundraiser benefiting relief efforts for Youthaiti and Friends of Orphans.

Come and join us in supporting local Milwaukee efforts to help Haiti. The event will take place from 1pm-9pm at Lakefront Brewery on Sunday, January 31st. Many members of Milwaukee’s business community have donated raffle prizes and auction items to help raise funds for the cause. 100% of all beer/drink sales will go to this effort as well as all donations and all income from the raffle/silent auction.

Music will be provided by our friends Chalice in the Palace and food will from a host of Our Milwaukee members. There will also be presentations from representatives of both of our recipient charities.

The raffle and silent auction will have items provided by over 40 local Milwaukee businesses with prizes and auction items ranging in value, from some at $100 and a few valued at over $1000! This is a great way to take advantage of the great products and services that our community provides all the while benefiting the organizations helping the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
